Whine, Flu and Toilet Training

He has officially entered the whiney stage. Aidan can not ask for anything now without using that whiney voice that drives me nuts. He still usually says “Please Mommy” but it is still a whine. So I am starting to be hard core. He has to ask politely and without the whine before he gets what he wants. Anthony is on board and has decided that we should stop the prompting for pleases. Apparently he was waiting for five minutes after he finished dinner to get out of his chair while Anthony waited for a please. He is still unfailingly polite when he doesn’t want something. If you want him to try something he doesn’t want he says “No Thanks.”

As an aside, when Aidan was so sick with the stomach flu we were really worried about dehydration. If you clicked the link you will remember how bad it was. Well while we were forcing liquids down him and trying to get the medicine down so we could get his temperature down he kept saying, “No thanks, no thanks.” I think the nurses were amused that he was so sick and being so polite about not wanting anything to go in his mouth.

We are still trying to encourage Aidan to toilet train. We use bribes (which he ignores), we talk about going to the bathroom ourselves, we talk about how much more comfortable underwear are than diapers. We have tried stickers, everything. This morning I was talking to him about little boy underwear (he doesn’t want to be a big boy) and he told me he didn’t want underwear. “I just wear diapers. I don’t want underwear.” Sigh, I only have six months before he needs to be at least using the toilet a little bit. I am totally ready to have him finished with diapers. My least favourite parts of the day are changing the dirty diapers. They are making me almost puke with the smell.

Should I go hardcore and put underwear on him every day and try to get him so uncomfortable that he trains? Do I actually buy one of those damn potties? (We use a stool and a toilet insert now.) Do the books help? I need some advice people.

Overheard

When I was resetting Aidan, after I got home from guides tonight, he was very talkative.  He didn’t want to be in bed and tried a number of different tactics to get me to let him upstairs again.  When he knew for certain that I wasn’t going to let him he said to me “Mommy are you going upstairs to play with my front end loader?”

You would be very proud of me, I didn’t laugh out loud, nor did I say “Yes!”  I assured him that I would not play with any of his toys.  When I told Anthony he said he would have said “Yes” and done it just to bug him.

What would you have done?

Menu Plan Monday

I am putting up the plan for the next two weeks since I have them finished and I have been having such a hard time blogging lately. Anthony and Aidan are both back to feeling healthy as well so we can actually have meals together for the first time in three weeks. It is also supposed to be sunny this week and maybe we can get out from the frigid temperatures. (Well for Vancouver they have been very frigid.) So onto the plan.

Monday, 31st: Real Mac and Cheese.

Tuesday, 1: Hamburgers

Wednesday, 2: Breakfast for dinner, pancakes

Thursday, 3: Chicken Kabobs, Basmati rice

Friday, 4: Ham, potatoes, broccoli

Saturday, 5: Lasagne, Salad, bread.

Sunday, 6: Leftover buffet.

Monday, 7: Happy Birthday to me. Steak, potatoes and salad.

Tuesday, 8: Something convenient (Guides)

Wednesday, 9: Chicken on the BBQ.

Thursday, 10: Slow cooked pot roast.

Friday, 11: Dinner out for combined birthdays.

Saturday, 12: Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Sunday, 13: Happy Birthday Anthony! His choice, and Lemon Meringue Pie.

The Flu Strikes Again

Anthony waited until Friday morning to get Aidan’s stomach flu. He waited over a week to finally succumb to the dreaded dehydrating monstrosity. Sigh. As this post was started this morning, I thought that I wasn’t in line for this and I was just tired. Um, no. I am not too bad and pretty sure that I am about 12-24 hours behind Anthony. At least the grown up version hasn’t included the vomiting of the child’s version.

So another Easter weekend is down the drain and Anthony has a very busy week next week so he can’t be home at all. This is one of those times that being in Vancouver really sucks. We can’t send the boy to the grandparent’s for the weekend, or get his cousin to babysit him for a few hours.  I was supposed to be singing, reading and serving at church tomorrow as well.  I have already called in sick, and found replacements for the reading and serving.  I am hoping I am less sick than Anthony is.

I  will try to update tomorrow and tell you how Aidan likes his easter stuff.  I knew I went to get the stuff last night for a reason.
