Sick

Around this time of year I usually get sick.  This year it was a little earlier than usual and of course at a critical time.  In two weeks the Advent Carol Service will be upon us.  I know it will work out, but so I don’t give the choir my chest cold, and because after I finish this small post I am going straight to bed, I will not be going to choir practice this evening.  I really hope that the new organist isn’t too overwhelmed and that the choir will be helpful.  I wish I knew if Nova was going because she is very aware of  the music.

I guess since this is my first kind of sucky post this month, I will just call it a night. See you for the rest of NaBlaPoMo tomorrow.

Goodnight.

Decadence

Every once in a while I like to give myself a little treat, something a little decadent.  Sometimes it is nothing more than a longer shower, or an Earl Grey Tea Latte from Starbucks.  Today it was a cup of tea and a Harlequin novel under the covers while Quinlan slept.

I almost felt guilty about taking the time to read a book and get warm under my covers and it got me to thinking, little indulgences shouldn’t make me feel guilty they should make me feel refreshed.  I have decided to make a list of indulgences that I am going to make happen try to make happen think about making happen before the new year. Some will be easy, some will be more difficult.

1. Take a long relaxing bath with a book and a glass of wine.

2. Go out for a piece of cheesecake and a cup of tea.

3. Go out to see the new Harry Potter film.

4. Go see White Christmas at the Stanley. (Tickets already bought.)

5. Buy some nice chocolate and share it with Anthony.

6. Get the third twilight movie and watch it without guilt.

7.  Learn to ski with my son. (Anthony signed us up for a weekend of skiing lessons.)

8. Get the grey out of my hair.

9. Go out on a date with my husband.

10.  Go out and do some more night photography.

11. Take a few minutes each day for myself.

What other indulgences should be on my list?

Clearing the Way

Over the last couple of months Anthony and I have been trying to make more room in our very small house.  It has been hardest trying to get rid of things like the bassinet and baby clothes.  I go through them and feel sad that it is unlikely that we will have another baby.  I know that it isn’t practical for us to have another baby, but giving away the last vestiges of Aidan and Quinlan’s babyhood hurt a bit.

We still have a lot of stuff here and if it doesn’t sell on craigslist soon then we will be giving the clothes away somewhere, maybe a women’s shelter.  The toys are another matter entirely.  Today I went through all the upstairs toys with the boys and managed to get a rubbermaid  tote and a cardboard box full of toys to sell at the Holly Bazaar at Holy Trinity.

Quinlan didn’t really understand what we were doing and he was happily playing with all the toys I put in the tote.  I feel a little sad that I am giving away all the tonka smiling cars, but he is more likely to play with his brother’s dinkies than with his own cars.

Aidan on the other hand was very emotional about what we were putting in the tote.  Even if he hadn’t played with these toys for well over a year he still didn’t want to let go of them now. I was able to put a few of the trucks that he said he really liked by putting them into a pile of toys that *might* go into the box.  I was also able to get rid of a number of dinkies that were a little broken (bent axles and the like) to become traders for geocaches.

All in all it was easier and had fewer tears than I expected. Now I just need to go through the toys downstairs.

Truth: A Life Worth Living

I have decided to skip day 6 because I have no intention of even writing down what I hope will never happen. Needless to say I am sure you can imagine for yourselves. Day 7 is much easier, though there is no way I can limit it to just one.

My family makes life worth living.  I am extremely blessed with two beautiful children, and a husband whom I adore.  I have parents and in-laws who love me.  I have fun with my brothers and my sister.  My aunts and uncles are one of a kind and my cousins are interesting and cool.  My grandparents are always there for us, and they absolutely love my children.

I have been in love with my husband since I was 17 years old.  We have been together for almost 20 years and I hope we are together for many, many more.  We get each other, we laugh together, we tweet each other while sitting on the sofa together.  I miss him when he has to go on an overnight business trip.  I like that we spend most evenings together.  Anthony can make me feel beautiful even when I am feeling my ugliest.

If I had not met Anthony I am not sure where my life would be right now.  I wouldn’t have my two beautiful boys.  I am pretty sure I would not be on the west coast.  I am not sure what my  life would be like, and I am glad I don’t have to know.

Anthony, you truly make my life better. I love you.
