  • RT @anndouglas: Has Harper answered a single question? Guess he hasn't had enough practice on the campaign trail. #db8 #
  • Canadian's know why there is an election! Harper is a liar and the CPC has contempt for the people of Canada! #db8 #cdnpoli #elxn41 #
  • Mud slinging? Pot meet kettle. Harper who are you kidding? #db8 #cdnpoli #
  • Harper eff off with the damn budget! That is NOT why the government fell! #db8 #elxn41 #
  • You treat Parliament as if it is an inconsequential debating society. Ignatieff to Harper. At least one zing. #db8 #elxn41 #cdnpoli #
  • RT @gmarkham: Harper does not understand how a parliamentary democracy works, apparently. #
  • The debate needs an audience. All the leaders need something other than the cameras to focus on. #db8 #elxn41 #
  • Harper: new verse same as the first: Well we put it in the budget . . . #db8 #elxn41 #
  • Love it!RT @anndouglas: Back home again. Rolled down my windows while driving to share the debate with people who forgot to tune in. #db8 #
  • RT @Stv: Harpers soft voice is less "caring leader" than it is "creepy uncle". I imagine it's directed, but I don't like it. #db8 #elxn41 #
  • RT @NanaLorraine: Civics should be mandatory ,then maybe people would know how our parliament works & Harper couldn't do such a job on us. #
  • RT @lisamedia: It always baffles me why "Christians" like Harper thinks that Jesus loved guns, prisons & oppressing women. #elxn41 #db8 #
  • RT @AnthonyFloyd: It's taken 1h45 for someone to point out that Harper's platform isn't for NOW, but 5 yrs in the future!? #db8 #elxn41 #
  • RT @scarbiedoll: Not to be petty, but Harper's hair is not moving. Who else thinks he's a droid? #
  • RT @AnthonyFloyd: Time to ride home. You had better believe that I'm going to keep an eye out for unregistered ducks. #db8 #cdnpoli #elxn41 #
  • Maybe that is part of the problem with trying to engage the young vote, have a panel of old former mps. #db8 #elxn41 #
  • If you want to engage youth, don't act like they are stupid and uniformed. Maybe uninformed, but not stupid. #db8 #elxn41 #
  • In fact the more I think about it, if you want to engage the Canadian vote, don't act like they are stupid and uninformed. #db8 #elxn41 #

  • Did we in BC have our pink day early? Should we be sending our kids to school in pink today as well? #antibullying #
  • My son was reading through my new food revolution cookbook and he now wants to make the garlic chicken. #foodrevparty #
  • He was also really impressed with the sugar dumped into the school bus. He is 6 and only drinks milk water and juice. #foodrevparty #
  • It is amazing, at home in NS, most kids go home for lunch. Next year my grade 1 son will bring lunch every day. #foodrevparty #
  • Parenting is know that sometimes you throw out plans & put your son down for a very early nap. Quinlan must not be feeling well. #canInap2 #
  • Of course it took me three meltdowns to put the pieces together. #
  • Quinlan managed to wake up just in time to get Aidan to school. His early nap almost 3 hours. #
  • I can't believe that Quinlan is down for another nap. It boggles the mind. #
  • And so ends another school week. Off to pick up Aidan. #
  • Mostly ready to get on the road in the am. Should be a fun trip. 🙂 #
  • Last day to comment to win a copy of Ain't Misbehavin': http://bit.ly/eP6rehttp://bit.ly/eP6reKy Open to Canada/US. #

  • See you when we have free wifi again. #
  • After the 20th time Quinlan came out of the bedroom, it looks like Anthony is lying down with the boys to get Q to sleep. I miss the crib. #
  • I guess it is my turn. Early to bed so Anthony can have some time to himself. #
  • Finally Quinlan passed out. He fought it every second of the way. I thought we'd all be asleep before him. Glad I was wrong. #
  • Another late night. The cheesecake factory was a bust until a manager got involved. Once the boys are asleep Anthony & I'll be able to eat. #
  • On a related note, of the few times we've been to the cheesecake factory, this was by far the cheapest. #

Pharaoh Serket and the Lost Stone of Fire: A Review

Posted on April 12, 2011 by Gwen

On Saturday night Aidan and I were able to attend the opening night of Carousel Theatre’s Pharaoh Serket and the Lost Stone of Fire. We got dressed up and headed to the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.  This is the last play in Carousel Theatre’s 2010-2011 season, and it is billed as a cross between Harry Potter and Indiana Jones.

Pharaoh Serket is a story of a young king of Egypt who is talked into taking a journey to find a lost treasure of Shogali. With political unrest in Egypt, and recovering from an illness, Serket find himself on an adventure with Zalira, the witch who saved his life, Bakneb, the scribe, and Asteth, a thief and guide.  In the end Serket figures out who he can trust and how to be a good king.

The set was fantastic, the costumes interesting and the comedic pratfalls and sneezes gave the play some well deserved doses of funny in this intense adventure story. The play was a little scary for the younger set, and Aidan would recommend it to kids a little older than him. He did enjoy the play, but there were some times when it was a little too intense. I must admit that there were a few parts that made me jump a bit too.

I think one of the best decisions I made this year was to get season tickets for Carousel Theatre. Every performance was fantastic and seeing Aidan so into the action was a treat to see. I can’t wait to get tickets for next year, including some extras for a few of the performances so that we can bring Quinlan.

Pharaoh Serket and the Lost Stone of Fire runs April 8th to 30th at Waterfront Theatre. For information and tickets call 604-669-3410.

***

Disclosure: I purchased the tickets to these performances and I was not asked to review the plays. All opinions are my own. All photos are taken by Tim Matheson and used with permission from Carousel Theatre.
