Just Saying

I am not sure what I want to write about today. I could be all political and talk about my feeling about what is happening in Israel and Palestine right now, but I am not sure that anyone will want to hear what I think. I have a half written post on how I think Donna Nobel might just be my favourite Doctor Who companion ever, but it really isn’t very good yet, so no, not that one. Sigh.

Tomorrow I will hopefully be full of words that are both witty and charming. Tonight I will just have to settle for somewhat pithy.

Goodnight.

Wow, I Was So Hopeful

In May of 2007 I wrote my 100th blog post while I was still a fairly young blogger and the mother of only one child. I have this list of things I wanted to do before I turned 40, that I wrote when I had just turned 34. I look at the list now and I guess that some things were easy, but others just haven’t happened.

Here is that list:

  1. Write at least 5 posts a week between the two blogs consistently.  Close enough.
  2. Teach Aidan to read.  Done, well he did it himself at 3.
  3. Start my Kindermusik business. (By September I hope.)  Not even interested.
  4. Teach Aidan to swim.
  5. Have another baby.
  6. Buy a dwelling. Not even close. Not on my list anymore.
  7. Get a full time teaching position. (Grade 5 or 6 hopefully.) Nope.
  8. Join another choir. Done, but not going anymore.
  9. Go to Disney whatever (either coast is fine.) Nope.
  10. Visit the Grand Canyon.  Done, was fabulous.
  11. See Penn and Teller. Done
  12. Visit Ireland and meet family. Nope
  13. Get Irish Passport. Nope
  14. Lose 40 lbs. Nope, not so worried about it anymore.
  15. Get into better shape. Done, and getting better.
  16. Learn to snowboard. Well, I learned to ski better.
  17. Go to some Winter Olympic events. It was a great time.
  18. Read and review a hundred books in a year. Read, but not reviewed.
  19. Narrate a novel. Only to my kids.
  20. Start a podcast. Not so interested.
  21. Find a good topic or premise for said podcast.
  22. Write a couple of children’s books. Only in my head.
  23. Start the scrapbook of Aidan’s life and actually finish a few pages. No.
  24. Spend a couple of nights away from Aidan with Anthony. Yes. Yay!
  25. Go to Paris. Nope. 🙁
  26. Get Organized. (At least 1 aspect of my life.) Somewhat.
  27. Have a huge yard sale. Nope
  28. Get rid of stuff. Yes.
  29. Organize my books. Did, but they need it again.
  30. ride my bike again Yes, we bike all the time now.
  31. Go camping with Aidan. We did a 2.5 week road trip with both boys.
  32. Learn to Ballroom dance. Not so much.
  33. Learn to write better. God, I hope so.
  34. Make an amazing train track formation  I am a fabulous track maker.
  35. Drive across Canada Boo, not yet.
  36. Go outside more often, even in the rain. Yes, we do get out in all weathers.
  37. See U2 in concert again. Yes, and it was fabulous. I will always see them again.
  38. Spend more time with Family. As much as we can.
  39. Go swimming more often
  40. Take more photographs Almost every day.
  41. Do something with the video we have. I sent our wedding videos to be turned to dvds.
  42. Shoot more video for the grandparents.
  43. Take another jewelry making course. No.
  44. Vacuum 1 a week HA!
  45. Clean Master bedroom 1 a month. LOL
  46. Go to Italy. Sigh, no.
  47. Visit somewhere warm for a vacation. Not in the way I meant.
  48. Take a girl’s trip to somewhere fun and relaxing. Blogher was not really relaxing. Fun, but not relaxing.
  49. Spend more time with Anthony alone. Not nearly enough.
  50. Take more time to relax. Not nearly enough.

Toons For Toddlers

When my kids were babies the only time I got to see any movies was when I went to a movie that was lower in sound and was meant to have babies on your lap. When Quinlan was born none of us went to movies because even if I wanted to take Aidan to a movie it was always too loud and dark. The one movie he went to when he was 4 was too much for him. It was loud and dark and there was no place for him to go to get away from the sound or action.

Luckily for those of you with kids 2-6 there is Toons for Toddlers put on by Movies For Mommies. All the shows are 60 minutes in length and run with reduced theatre sound and dim lighting for a safe and comfortable first movie experience.

Chugginton

On November 24th at 10:00 am Movies for Mommies and Toons for Toddlers are showing The Best of Chugginton at the Rio Theatre,1660 East Broadway at Commercial. Tickets are $6 per person with no charge for babes in arms. You can buy tickets online or at the door.

As you may have guessed this is a sponsored post. I have taken my boys to a Toons for Toddlers event and I know other parents who have done the same. It is a great way to introduce kids to a movie experience without overwhelming their senses. I have full editorial control over my content and all opinions are my own.

Leonard Cohen

On Thursday last week Anthony won tickets to see Leonard Cohen at Rogers arena. They are floor seats close to the stage. I am sure he will be worth the money we are paying the babysitter.

It is incredibly weird to have another date night. This will be 3 in 4 weeks with another next Saturday. I have no idea how this happened. Yay for sisters coming from Nova Scotia and cousins for babysitting.

Update: The concert was great and it went right up till curfew. I loved all the spoken word parts where he didn’t try to sing. It was a good mix of old and new and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. I did however, feel a little bit too young to be there.
