Follow the Yellow Brick Road

As some of you may have guessed we are big fans of Carousel Theatre here in the Floyd household. They have not only given Aidan an outlet for his imagination and creativity but they foster the child within all of us. Last year was the first year we had season tickets and all the productions were fantastic. Aidan and whichever grownup was privileged enough to go with him were entranced and thoroughly entertained.

This season we have season tickets again, but this time we also have tickets for Quinlan for a few of the performances. I can’t wait for Frog and Toad as this will be the first time that all four of us will get to go to a play together. Aidan and I are going to the opening of The Wizard of Oz on the 3rd of December and we can’t wait, especially after having seen some of the wardrobe and the rehearsals when we have theatre classes.

Now for the exciting part for my local readers, I have 2 sets of 2 tickets for the December 10th performance at 7pm, of The Wizard of Oz. If you have a child 4+ and would like a chance to go all you need to do is comment on this post and let me know who is your favourite character in The Wizard of Oz. You must be able to come to the December 10th performance at Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.  Leave a comment by next Friday the 25th and I will email the winners. The winners will have 48 hours to contact me, if not I will draw another winner.

If you want to hedge your bets you can get your very own tickets by calling  604.685.6217.

Disclosure: The season tickets we purchased ourselves. They are well worth it.

Zombie Fridges, Bad Luck and Mice

I apologize to all those coming to my house on Saturday night, you may or may not have a cold drink and you may see a mouse. You see my fridge is playing night of the living dead and our upstairs neighbour has seen a mouse.

The only time we have seen a mouse or had any inkling that there might be something like a mouse in our house was when we had company over. Thanksgiving dinner and the mouse who we had not seen any signs of, well except our cats doing a weird stalking of the built-in dishwasher, runs out and our friend Carla shouts “Mouse!” Anthony and Tomer went out right away to get some mouse traps and we have not seen any since. Our upstairs neighbour emailed us a day later saying she had caught the mouse. I, being cautious by nature, and well let’s face it a little wigged out, kept the traps out and they are still out.

The only upside I can see right now with regards to Monsieur Mouse, is that Dianthe is not stalking anything in the kitchen. Of course I have not really looked at the traps either to see if the levers are up. I am praying to any and all deities at the moment that this particular mouse keeps to his apartments upstairs. That really isn’t so much to ask, is it?

The Zombie fridge is another story. I told my landlord a few weeks ago that our fridge was about to die. When the 25 year old fridge (well I think so anyway) starts making sounds like a turbo prop airplane, chances are that it is about to die. He sent a polite note to let me know when it died. It died today, several times in fact. I have cleared out the freezer of the slowly melting food and put it in the chest freezer we have downstairs. I have put all the truly perishable fridge items in a Rubbermaid tote on our balcony. Now we just wait until Tuesday somewhere between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm for them to deliver the fridge and take the other one away.

As Social Distortion would say I’ve got Bad, Bad Luck. It has got to stop sometime . . . right?

Aidan Strikes Again

Aidan has had some wonderful opportunities with Carousel Theatre, and the latest was a chance to get some interview time with Darryl Milot the head of Wardrobe for their production of The Wizard of Oz. He spent about 40 minutes talking to Darryl about how the costumes go from conception to reality. He was able to see costumes in various states of readiness and he got to touch the Ruby slippers. Here is the edited version:

Coveting

There are a few pairs of shoes I am coveting at the moment. I love the retro feel of the boots and shoes, and as Hush Puppies, I hope they are comfortable as well. So far I have only seen them online, but I hope to try some on this week. I could use a new pretty pair of boots and the shoes are perfectly perfect.

I love the way these boots look. I love the graceful heel, the laces up the front and the zipper on the side. I hope that they will fit my calves.

These shoes with their burst of colour will make a statement.  I love a loafer and a loafer with a heel is a beautiful thing.

What about you, anything you are coveting at the moment?
