Dancing With the Stars: Why Do We Care?

On Monday and Tuesday nights, Anthony and I share a bit of a secret life.  We are closet Dancing With The Stars fans. In fact up until this last season, I even voted for people.  In the beginning we watched because we had an idea of who the people were, and we like the way Tom Bergeron handled the crowds, stars and judges.  Now I am not sure why we watch since it became Dancing With the Mildly Famous But At Least Not a Hilton but it is still fun.

This season I wasn’t really sure if we would be rooting for anyone, I mean come on, Kelly Osbourne and some people we have never heard of?  I mean other than Donny Osmond who knew anyone on the show this season?  Yet here we are in the semi-final week and we are still watching and trying to figure out who actually makes it into the final.  In fact as I am writing this I am watching the results show and I was right, Joanna was eliminated.  I thought that Donny might go, but he has a ton of fan support, some of whom may actually know how to use a computer.

So are we the only closet Dancing With The Stars fans? What are your guilty pleasures in tv?

I couldn’t be bothered to watch most of DWTS this year until the last four, which was this week. I did sometimes watch Kelly and found her very endearing and surprisingly, a good dancer. I think that the appeal is watching people who are no dancers try so hard to do something we would like the opportunity to do. In private however. I would not want to be seen by anyone until I was getting pretty good.

I got bored with Dancing with the Stars after my favourite US figure skater ran away with the prize. Now it is all about the SYTYCD – both US and Canadian versions.
